Ingredients

Pastry

  • 2½ cups flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 3 tbsp butter or Ghee
  • 1 cup water

Filling:

  • 1 package HV Vegetarian Hamburger Mix
  • 1½ tsp cumin seeds
  • 3 whole cardamom pods
  • 1 medium onion, small dice
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • 2 tbsp Ghee
  • 2 medium garlic cloves, crushed
  • 2 tsp ginger paste
  • 1½ tbsp curry powder
  • Salt and ground pepper to taste

Directions

  1. Prepare HV Vegetarian Hamburger Mix according to package instructions.
  2. Brown in 2 tbsp oil over medium heat and set aside.
  3. Heat 1 tbsp Ghee in the skillet and add cumin seeds and cardamom pods. Cook for one minute.
  4. Add the onions and cook until translucent.
  5. Reduce the heat and add the garlic and ginger paste. Sauté for 2-3 minutes, add the curry powder and the cooked HV Vegetarian Hamburger Mix. Cook for 3-4 minutes or until all the flavors are incorporated.
  6. For the pastry, sift the flour; add the salt, baking powder and work in the butter or Ghee. Add in half the water and mix to make a soft dough. Add the rest if needed.
  7. Kneed the dough until it is soft and pliable.
  8. Roll out to about a ¼ inch thickness. Use a 3 inch biscuit cutter to cut out circles.
  9. Heat oil in a skillet or deep fat fryer to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
  10. Moisten the edges of the dough circles with water. Put about 1 tsp of the HV Vegetarian Hamburger Mix mixture onto the center of the disk. Fold over to make a crescent shape and pinch edges together.
  11. Cook the Samosas in batches until golden brown. Drain on paper towels.
  12. Serve with mint or Tamarind Chutney.
