Philly Cheese Steak

Ingredients

  • 1 package HV Vegetarian Hamburger Mix, prepared according to package instructions
  • ½ cup EVOO (extra virgin olive oil), divided
  • 3 tbsp A-1 Steak Sauce
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ¼ tsp coarsely ground black pepper
  • 2 medium onions, sliced as thin as possible and rings separated
  • ¾ cup sliced mushrooms
  • 6 slices provolone cheese
  • 3 steak rolls

Directions

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit, and lightly grease a cookie sheet or baking dish.
  • Combine the prepared HV Vegetarian Hamburger Mix with the A-1 Sauce, ¼ cup EVOO, salt, and pepper.
  • Press the mixture onto the cookie sheet to form a ¼ inch thick rectangle and bake for 10 minutes.
  • Cool the baked HV Vegetarian Hamburger Mix mixture for about 5 minutes, then slice into 2 inch x ½ inch pieces.
  • In a large frying pan, add 3 tablespoons EVOO and heat until a drop of water sizzles when you drop it into the oil.
  • Reduce the heat to medium and add the onions and mushrooms. Stir and cook until the mushrooms darken and onions start to look transparent. Remove from the pan and set aside in a bowl.
  • Add 2 more tablespoons of EVOO and the HV Vegetarian Hamburger Mix slices and sauté until the HV Vegetarian Hamburger Mix slices brown. Add in the onions and mushrooms.
  • If your frying pan is big enough, divide the mix into three spatula sized sections. If not, remove 2/3 of the mix and set aside on a plate.
  • Lay 2 slices of the cheese over the top of the HV Vegetarian Hamburger Mix and onion mix. Let the cheese melt, cutting it in and turning with the spatula. Using a spatula, scoop up the mix and place it in the roll. Repeat with the other 2/3 of the mix.
